Half-Leather. leather spines and corners, marbled paper boards, heavy rubbing, endpapers appear newer than paper used for book body, someone put a second covering of the same pattern marble paper and glued inside over the existing endpaper, heraldry bookplate of the sussex family, ashburner, "quicquid cresit in cinere preit". whatever grows perishes in ashes, the name on the bookplate rubbed off, muslin showing and a second bookplate, g. walter steeves, author of francis bacon, on front free end-paper. top-edge of pages darkened as if a candle got too close, but pages intact. browning goes 1/4" into some pgs., front cover detached.
