Book body tight, long handwritten inscription by previous owner dated 1949 at front free endpaper, else clean, pages lightly age toned. Copyright page states "PUBLISHED BY THE VIKING PRESS, INC. IN MARCH 1949" at the top, and "PRINTED IN U.S.A. BY AMERICAN BOOK-STRATFORD PRESS, INC., NEW YORK" at the bottom, states "SECOND PRINTING BEFORE PUBLICATION" on same. Second issue illustrated dust jacket shows moderate to heavy shelf wear and rubbing marks to all edges, corners, and head and tail of spine, small tear at the edge of a crease to top edge of back cover.
